Noir... (or noire) French for "black". Many people have heard of "film noir" and there are dozens of sites which somehow use this word. How does this relate to comics? Early in the 20th century, there were comic strips being written for newspapers. Papers then were strictly black and white, and various forms of shading were used to create depth and to color/texture clothing.

During and following the 1920-1933 Volstead Act, many people began depicting seedy situations, both in movies and on paper. This brought around both of the terms "film noir" and "crime noir". In comics, the strips were pushed into darker situations, and used much more black to help set the mood through the use of shadow. Many scenes took place at night, where anything lurks in the shadows, and the underworld thugs come out to play.

A further aspect of the "noir" world are sexual situations. In general- steamy adulterous affairs augmented with dark passions and a dash of violence.

All of our comics are intended for mature audiences. A few deal with adult situations, and/or use strong language. If it offends, put it down.
